32 in scale jazz bass options?

These are Maruszczyk basses, with many, many available options. As you can see in the description, they are available in 30', 32' and 34'. There's a 4 string Jazz available for 950 € new, you'd need to ask how much it would be for international pricing/shipping/customs etc. Anyway, this company offers an incredible span of customization options and finishes, I have been really stunned when I first discovered them.

I love the sound of my SX but don't care much for the baseball bat neck. What is the shape of the fender like?

You should check out the DeArmond Jetstar, the one that has two jazz pickups, not the P pickup model. I got one in a trade a couple months ago. It's 31 inch scale, between a medium and a short scale. It's super playable and gets what I consider a pretty authentic jazz tone. You can find them pretty cheap, the look of them is definitely polarizing though.

Here's another endorsement of the Warwick Corvette Rockbass medium scale bass. And here are some of its design qualities:

-The tuners are canted to allow tuning without contortion (a small thing but it shows thoughtfulness)
-The height of the nut can be adjusted
-For the active version, the back-plate can be removed without using tools
-The locking bridge is very adjustment-even to the point of changing string spacing
-The horn moves the guitar to the right of a right-handed player-this eliminates neck dive
-The front of the bass is beveled at the point of contact with the player's forearm

You get the picture; this bass is as comfortable as an old pair of shoes.

There was a TB guy, Brad Lowe, that makes 32" conversion necks, or did, that will screw right on any J or P body. There is a huge ongoing thread on those somewhere on TB. Find yourself a used Squier and have yourself a middie for 500 bucks.

I built one and now I'm a mid scale junkie. Beware.

That is cool. It looks like a lefty! It also looks it has quite the potential for neckdive.

Just curious what's out there before I commit to a short scale jazz bass build. As far as cost goes, it should be under $1,000 new or used.

Japanese Fenders and some of the old Aria Pro II models are excellent choices if you want an affordable pro quality 32" scale bass you can use for almost anything.

ARIA TSB series are also 32". !980's Japanese build too.

Second vote for a Warmoth build. I have a 32 inch one, and the only thing I don't like is the skinny neck. If you like Jazz necks, you're good (I have huge hands and a P neck fits them much better).

Not a baseball bat by any means. Slim and comfy.

I'd love to get my mitts on a medium aerodyne (AJBM) to try it out (I love 32s, I love Js) but I wish they'd gone with the blacked out fretboard like they did on the full scale one; the dots take away from it.

I recently ordered up a couple of the 32" scale SX necks off the website. They were actually pretty slim. Jazz nut width, and slightly narrow heel. If you're fitting one of these onto a non SX body, you'll probably need to fill in the neck rout a little. I made the bodies that those two necks went onto, so it was just a case of making up a routing template sized for the heels.

I like the 1.5 nut but how are they back to front?
