35 inch scale, 4 string. Where??

Are Peavey G-Basses any good? I just remember a rainbow sparkle one I saw at NAMM back in 1998. They're discontinued now, but you might find one used.
If you go for the high-tech graphite/carbon fiber neck thing with modern active EQ, they are very, very good. People love them. Personally I haven't really loved the ones I've tried. The carbon composite neck is too weird for me.
 
The Czech Beast and Grendel are 34" scale, at least mine are.

Brawley made an inexpensive 35" four, they turn up on ebay now and then.

In the GFS forum there's a nice 35" Kawai for $550. A tad more than your budget limit, but it has a sweet feature set for the money.
