I'm from Boston but unfortunately don't live there anymore...
I finally ordered a Proton right at the end of the run. I have a GR2 that Bootsy Collins signed - I remember when I bought it in Seattle at the bass store there (can't think of the name) I had a choice between the GR2 & the Proton - now I finally have a Proton coming to me!

Mine arrived in Northwest Arkansas yesterday.... and I got to spend a lil bit of time comparing it to my Chromatron -- it's really cool!! I don't use the expression features on my Chromatron - so for me, the only lacking part of the Proton is the missing MIX & BOOST features (which aren't always needed). I really like it so far, and it can do subtle & spikey both very well. Happy user here!!

I got mine Friday and got to take it for a spin at rehearsal yesterday. I love it, I dialed in a setting that sounded great with the octave pedal in front of it.
Now I just need to upgrade to a pedaltrain nano max from the + so I have room to grab a Doom in the next release.

I put up my complete take of Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley, I kept playing after the song faded out so you can hear the bass by itself (around the 4 minute mark)
I really want to work with the settings some more - I think it's triggering it too high, I want to try having the range lower so that it's greasier...

Nice groove!
The tone knob does a lot with the...tone. I usually set the gain to where it's consistent without blowing it out, then set the tone knob to how deep or treble-y I want it to be. Peak usually around noonish, which sets how resonant the peak is.
Part of the fun is the journey and discovering how it reacts with pedals before. I usually like some sort of light overdrive before it to give it some more harmonics to work with.
Great tip! That's one aspect with me - this bass has Alembic Activators and the Alembic filter-based preamp. Definitely want to experiment with other basses in my collection, as well as this one. Keeping overdrive/distortion out of the picture for now...
Another Proton experiment:
It's the Alembic Activator bass (P pup with some J mixed in, filter set fairly high but zero Q) into the Proton into the JHS Punchline with comp/amp sim/eq engaged. Wish I could document my Proton settings, but they are ephemeral, depending on so many various factors. Not that that's a bad thing! My next experiment is with my trusty CAE/CAJ V-Comp tube compressor in front - I enjoyed having it in front of my GR2, allows me to be sloppier but still with dynamics.

It's also fun to put a bitcrusher after the proton. It gives it more of a "yuh" sound of you dial it in right.
