On another note...I ran out of Wonderloves yesterday and had to build more which is why I didn't post the limited pedal yesterday. I'll get it up on the website tonight.

Taylor decided to stop taking tons of orders in advance and just be creative. He looks like he's having so much fun too. And man, those pedals he's making are breathtaking. So just a few come out from time to time, no mass production at all. He's just putting out an amazing collection of one offs.

I'd be surprised if they take more than 30 secs to sell. So far i'm supper happy to see that no one's taking advantage of that to make a quick turn around profit.

When I got the Oxide and the SubT a few days later, I basically purchased it before he posted the announcement on Facebook/ilovefuzz. They sell out before he lets people know they exist.

That's pretty cool. I'd love to do something like that but I don't do my own finishes so it's not really feasible right now. Even that little run of white Protons was kind of a hassle for the paint shop. I'd love to partner with an artist at some point and have a continuous stream of one-offs produced.

I generally don't take orders in advance either - I don't like to tie up a customer's cash until I have something that's ready to ship.

I agree, his current approach is interesting and allows for more creativity on his part, which is cool for sure.

From what I remember reading though, he was months behind at one point and had to shut his doors to catch up, and then changed to the current format.

Hopefully that's not the case here, Spencer! :)

My recent absence and delays have less to do with catching up with production and more to do with the fact that I attempted to relocate my residence and my workshop at the same time without the help of employees/significant others. Once the new shop is finished, production will run smoothly.

I know a couple pedal builders (and two bass builders) pretty well and I know quite a few head chefs at upscale restaurants including my brother in SF. The two jobs have a lot of parallels. In both cases I think people overestimate the money they earn/margins on products (based on the price if a meal or boutique pedal) and underestimate the hours worked. And in both jobs it can be hard to keep employees because the job requires significant skill yet generally doesn't pay well. And personal setbacks can bring everything to a grinding halt.

So while I'm not telling anyone else to feel similarly, I try to be understanding and cut these guys a lot of slack.

And for what it's worth, from the bit that I know and am comfortable sharing, Taylor didnt get overloaded with orders, there were other factors beyond his control that hamstrung Iron Ether.

Personally I'm glad Spencer and Taylor are both doing their thing.
