Well, in Spencer's defense, all the buildup was almost entirely propagated by rabid TB members in this thread, not by him. Someone even misinterpreted one of his humorous comments on the 3Leaf Audio Facebook page and came to the conclusion that the new pedal was going to be an overdrive.

If I was in the market for a boost/eq pedal, I'd be very excited, but I'm not. It is actually kind of a relief to not feel compelled to buy. Of course, 10 years from now when they're selling for $1500 I will kick myself for not getting one.

The bass control is broader and the treble control is simply different given the 2 frequency settings.

Concur. The boost is the last thing I would expect from such stellar builder as 3LA...Probably for those playing mostly passive basses it'd be okay. I play USA Spectors, all active, and their output leaves no need to be boosted. But on the other hand this will save me some cash for Octavbre, right? ;)

+1. You'll be amazed how they work together. My Proton and Doom together emulate some patterns of my Akai Deep Impact synth, very very close to it. Just add some good octave pedal (do you hear me, Spense:)) to these two and you'll have one of the coolest synth tones for bass on your board.

Well, a clean boost is a very useful tool regardless what bass you have if you want to use it to hit a preamp harder. It is an incredibly crowded market however. There are also more and more clean boosts that have some sort of EQ functionality. The new EQD one looks really cool, WoundedPaw has one as well. I definitely would have given this one a try before I got the Bajo Mos. I still might since this pedal seems to have top jacks (the bajo mos is cool, cheap, good quality, but the side jacks and side power is just a nuisance).

I know some people will always be disappointed, and that it's never a good idea to try to please everyone, and that if I don't have anything nice to say to keep my mouth shut, and that haters gonna hate, and that it probably sounds awesome, but...

An EQ pedal? Sorry Spencer, I'll wait for the Octavber. I was really hoping this was going to be a simpler compressor or an overdrive. Although I'd wager that this EQ would probably do what I actually want a compressor to do for my sound. Fatten it up, while adding clarity and punch. But after months of suspense, I guess it's just a little bit disappointed in the reveal.

Still it's a gorgeous pedal, and I do look forward to hearing how it sounds and how it plays with the other members of the 3LA family.

I thought this way at first too, but another way to think about it is like I mentioned in an earlier post... I've been meaning to check out a Funkulator because my main gig (11-piece funk cover band) does require some slap. So that's where the Black Box will start for me. That would be enough to hang onto it, so anything else I can use it for would be icing on the cake really. I also want to see what it does if I have it before my You're Doom and boost signal into the dirt. :)
