3Leaf Audio Octabvre MK III

So maybe he hasn’t had time to write the instructions out?

I dunno man. Everything’s wack with corona, plus as I said he’s a one-man show. Things pile up quick, so especially now I’m personally trying to give everyone some extra wiggle room.

But I’m not gonna argue with ya. You do you.
Maybe, but I told him that I've put together pedals my self and I was sure I could figure it out myself.

I mean I'm happy with all my three leaf stuff and they aren't leaving my board, but....

Echoing pangton's sentiments, I also obviously love Spencer's stuff, but had a hard time reaching him a while back, before COVID even. I understand being a one-man operation, but he's still an operation. If he can't take the time to reply to an email, what's the point of representing himself as a business? Again, LOVE Spencer's stuff, and I understand delays with this past year, but given that he's been historically hard to reach, it's definitely a frustrating problem for otherwise very eager customers.

I dunno...that’s kind of what you get with boutique imo. You get hand made art that someone really took the time to put together but at the same time, you get the support of a human, not a business. That means you will likely see amazing kindness and above and beyond personal touches, but also “life happens” bs that no customer is ever pleased with. It’s a roll of the dice, but usually the product is worth it for that roller coaster of expectations.

Most of these operations are not full time so who knows what’s going on with the real job or the real life that could change the way the operation is being run? Could be temporary, could be longer term, or even a new pattern for the quality...sometimes the passion dies or shifts and other times people up their game with better systems and reinvigorated energy. Definitely a positive thing that he has a new design and is shipping orders so the business seems to have his focus at the moment.

He was actually always fast to reply to my emails. Another reason to feel disappointed.

From the website:

JANUARY 2021

I am currently building and shipping OCTABVRE and DOOM 2 preorders. I’m a little bit behind schedule right now but your order will ship in the next few days if it hasn’t shipped already.
I'm not really expecting much now especially since orders have gone out already and he said would be sending out an enclosure from the last batch. He always emailed me with in five mins of me emailing him. Last message I sent was a week ago and haven't heard from him.

Got my Octabvre MkIII today. Anybody else finding that the “ULTRABLACK” finish looks nothing like the one on the website? Mine is a lighter shade of grey than my Proton is, and quite shiny too. I really liked the look of the super dark black matte finish in the photo. That’s my only complaint though, the pedal sounds fine.

Nope. I emailed him giving him a heads up about the lettering and the velcro. He said he was sorry and said he'd send me a new enclosure. I even offered to send him mine, but he said it was "cool". Last I heard from after emailing me was that he got the enclosures and had to write out instructions on how to transfer everything over. That was 4 weeks ago. I've always loved Spencer's work, but really disappointed.

Imagine getting hung up on maybe possibly not getting an enclosure ASAP in the midst of a global pandemic. What a good problem to have.

Don't try to obfuscate the issue with just going "there's a global pandemic going on" when the problem this person is having is related to communication, not supply. You can still send an e-mail during a global pandemic, especially when it's in regards to a business matter with someone who paid top dollar for your product. If Spencer is having trouble getting the stuff together to send it out, then he should have sent a personal e-mail. Then, there's no issue with Spencer; he's doing what he can and any reasonable person should see that. There is no justifying a lack of correspondence unless Spencer was unable to get to a computer or phone for four weeks. All it would have taken was, "Hey, sorry I haven't gotten it out yet. I'm having trouble getting the supplies necessary. I will let you know when I can send one out. Thanks." Takes 30 seconds, not 4 weeks, to let someone know that.

Not obfuscating at all. None of us know Spencer or what he may or may not be going through or dealing with. Dude could be intubated for all we know. Getting hung up on these things right now is silly.

Hung up? I wouldn't have cared at all if HE didn't make the offer! When I emailed him the first time, I was just letting him know the issue so he could fix it for future runs. I find it annoying that he stopped all communication when he was always quick to reply with his emails.

I know he had business issues with darkglass. Kind of makes me wonder about his business practices.

I'd be feeling pretty overwhelmed as a one man shop with more orders than I can keep up with during a pandemic that's been raging for ten months.

As a teacher during these times, I'm constantly reminding myself to allow way more slack than usual, to both myself and to others.

I agree that it's poor form to promise a favor and then not deliver, but given the circumstances, it seems pretty forgivable to me. Others may feel otherwise.

I agree and it's not like I have been bothering him about it, but when you see product being shipped out to others when on of those was supposed to be yours sucks. It's not like he had to special order an enclosure. I would have been happy if he said, "sorry man. Next time"

If you’re ok with it, be ok with it. You posted you’ve been emailing him monthly, well before then enclosures even came in. Honestly, if your emails sounded anything like what you’ve posted in this thread...I’d probably ignore them myself.

If you’re not ok with it, fine. We hear you. Now let’s move on.

Seriously. And bringing up Darkglass out of nowhere really doesn't make it seem like you're not "hung up" on it.

Actually I was pretty cordial with him. I never demanded anything and only asked what was up. I just wanted to vent on here because he was sending out product I was promised.

Ok sorry for bringing it up. I just felt it sucked that people can't keep promises and felt disappointed because Spencer was someone I thought was an awesome person and really wanted to support him. Guess I'm alone on this one. Enjoy your JC'abvrfs.
