Since a majority of name brand basses are using 34" for their 5 string basses, modding a "standard" 4 string to run BEAD is not a big deal. It is a route I plan to take eventually since I rarely play in the upper register, but for the time being I am enjoying my 5 string.

And no socks at the moment...

as you can see, if its a smaller bead, there is still a very pronounceable b at the front of it, so youll be good anyway you choose.

i tuned a Warwick Short Scale rockbass to BEAD with 45-105 DR high beams.

was super impressed. After seeing a 30 inch baritone Electric guitar tuned to F#B E A D G C E i thought why the hell can't a bass of the same scale get as low with thicker strings?

and it worked.

more importantly. Yes i am wearing socks. thick, about ankle height, high'vis orange and black.

My fender p select is tuned BEAD, I swapped the pick up in it to an aguilar P-Hot and had to file the nut a bit wider to make the strings sit nicely. I dont have issues with the scale length

Seems like there's lots of 34" and even some shorter 5 strings. I suspect that the 35" B string obsession is just another Talkbassism.

Only if you could manage to also have one bare foot, the other in a flip-flip, while wearing both a fedora and sunglasses in a club at 3 in the morning. Also, the shorts need to be 80s cut-off length, and the tank Hawaiian print.

You might get a good low B on a 34" scale with the right kind of string. My bass, a 4-string 34" scale, is strung with D'Addario XL Chrome flats and the tension on the low E is high, because of the string's high mass density. I could probably lower it a fourth and still have enough tension that it wouldn't flop badly.

On my next bass I'm going to try to get a 35" 4-string, in part to have the flexibility to explore lower tunings. Right now I am quite busy just trying to become adept on EADG.

Using flatwound strings is another way to increase string tension considerably.
