How involved is replacing a 4 string neck to a 5 string... converting a 4 string solid body to a 5er? Actually routing a 5 neck onto a 4 body.

go to the luthiers corner, and do a search, you will get alot more answers than here. and no, im not a jackass who just yells do a search, i genuinly want to help, and the help i can offer is to tell you about the luthiers corner. hope that helps
Have you also considered a new bridge (and saddles)? How about pickups? Sell the four if you want a five ... really.
Buy a cheap 5 string and figure out if you even LIKE it. It seems that about 1/3 of those who try 5 string can't get with it, absolutely hate it or find it awkward. Myself, I had to take a hiatus from playing for a few years(wife sick, r.i.p.) and when I was going to get back into playing, I bought an el cheapo. Turned out I am addicted to 5!
