Double Bass 40 yrs ago,Junior Huskey

Superman Kent .... Thanks for posting the tribute to Junior :) . He was one of the greatest. Is that stable of uprights in the photos backstage at The Opry ?

To honor Junior I listened to Nashville Blues, Black Mountain Rag, Sunny Side Of The Mountain, and You Don't Know My Mind from the first Circle Unbroken album in my truck with the bass turned up loud this morning on the way to work :D .

Is it just me or does anybody else think that Junior not only passed down some magnificent bass-playing genes to his Son but also his wry smile ;) ?

Kent .... As far as good albums with Junior on bass goes, I've got the Circle Unbroken albums and The Bear Family Jimmy Martin Box Set. Can you recommend a couple other of your personal favorite albums that have Junior on them ?

As far as bgrass,,the stuff he did with the Osborne Bros is really great,,Junior did lots of country stuff,Jerry Reed,Waylon Jennings,Willie Nelson,Connie Smith,Tammy Wynette,,,as one of the Opry stars told me one night "there were better known bass players in Nashv but none that played better than Junior Huskey,He played with the best feel",,his grandson Chris Huskey is working on a web site and a discoraphy Link Removed

Thanks for the link Kent...never knew about that tribute. I wonder if Junior owned all those basses in the photos or if all the A team guys kept a bass here and there and they would just use each other's basses...

There might be one in there thats not Juniors,,but most of thoses are his,the flatback is at the HOF,he used it to record with in the late50s-early 60s.The one with the towel in the bridge looks to be a carved bass,it might be the one he brought back from a European tour, it was said to be too loud,,thats the reason for the towel,,it is one that has not been found.Junior loaned out basses and alot of them never came back after he diedThe photo was prob made before he got the Gretch, which is the bass he recorded with from then on.I know the blond Kay called blondie is still in the family, and the Standard the Roy Jr played,One of his other grandsons has the bass that Tater Tate had,,that he got from Red Murphy, that was left in Starday,,Roy got it back sometime in the 80s after our old pal Gerorge Chestnut found a receipt made to Junior back in the 60s from a toy store.
I know Roy always talked about Blondie,Brownie, and Lester, and could tell which one was on which record, the family still has them, but does'nt want too sell or even show them to anyone.someone went and tryed to buy one of them a few years ago and insulted them with a offer,,so they are off limits.
I would love to just see them, take photos to document them.
they are historic instrments and should be preserved.
So to answer your question I guess Junior did have basses at some of the studios.I know Bob Moore had a couple of different ones, and Joe Zinkan had 2
,one he left at WSM Tv and the other he recorded with.
Keep a watch for this web site to be finnished soon it's one of Juniors grandsons creating it he has all of Juniors books, and has documented almost all of his recordings,,which is well into the thosands,, Link Removed
