4001 Mashup

It's funny, I used to see them available at the sporting goods stores all the time, but when I recently went to look, no one carried them anymore. Maybe skateboarding and rollerblading are no longer as popular around here as they used to be.

maybe they finally made it a crime… ;)

Since you already have a table saw, and are an active builder, I would highly recommend investing in the thin kerf saw blade that Stewmac sells, along with one of their fret slotting templates. Once you are set up, it makes cutting fret slots a 5 minute affair, and will give you perfectly consistent cuts.

That's good advise, thanks. I looked at that blade and it seems like a good investment. I already ordered the fret saw, but I may invest in the table saw blade for the next build.

Tried posting this before, guess it didn't go through.

Try Swiss bones reds if you need skateboard bearings for the jig you have set up. Use lighter fluid and spin them until dry. After breaking them in, they work like a charm.

I might have seen those in my travels. I seem to remember therm being a little more expensive.

They're like 18 dollars new. If you're interested, I could send you some old ones I popped out of my skateboard. Two out if the 8 broke and I just replaced the whole set. So I've got some extras that have no use sitting on my dresser. If you want I'll just give you the remaining 6 to try on your jig.

Swiss does make 100 dollar ceramic bearings too, I'd live to get some, but they've got a pretty large price range between products.

They fit and are marketed to bicycle racer-geeks/wannabees for their already overpriced wheels - I'm sure they are AMAZING… but no…

PM responded by the way.

A little tip for breaking in this type of bearing (skateboard) douse them in ligher fluid, spin them a ton until dry, then put each bearing in an individual sock, tie the socks together (socktopus) and put them in the dryer for a bit. That will get them going crazy fast.

Yeah, I think they completely miss the idea that the typical skateboarder they market too (based on the multitude of thrasher magazines I've read) would much rather spend 100 dollars on a new Rodney Mullen uberlight board, some pot, or a diamond and gold nixon watch. :roflmao:

Granted the pro skaters would pay for them, but they get them for free anyway.

The rarified air of hype. Geeks exist in all universes, but to ground it in our world - a gifted player could pick up any bass and play it well. I bet skaters aren't that different when it comes to the actual need of technical advantages to highlight there talents. ;)

An interesting (well to me) footnote on these bearings: I just found out through this this thread that thees are the same bearing used on 90% of vacuum cleaner motors. I was a vacuum repairman for many years.

So FedEx delivered some kind of Ninja Sword this afternoon. Seems to fit in my miter box though.

It came with a $10.00 piece of plastic with 2 nuts and bolts through it, which they call a depth stop. I guess that's in case you try to stab someone too deep :P

And I got some fret wire.

I suppose I have my work cut out for me this weekend (no pun intended).

I don't know yet if band practice is Saturday or Sunday. Film at 11.

You may already be aware, but it ideally works pulling it toward you - never pushing away from you.
