Well, I had to look VERY closely to see what the "differences" were. Two more pole pieces, some reshaping. Meh.
I dd find the pic of the bass on what insinuates to be Ol' Leo's workbench a bit laughable. Sorry, EB, that's G&L's exclusive property, and if I were them, I'd be fairly pissed about you trying to "back into" that legacy. Shame on you.

What's the difference between this and the classic series? Only thing I can see is the truss rod stuck in from the rear with a walnut skunk stripe. Please correct me.

I think the biggie is the pickup that would even out the "weak G string" and probably give it a "smoother" tone. That is intriguing. I DONT like that its only in one color with a unique WHITE pickguard only. The faux truss hole on the headstock is strange but stylish looking. I think its a cool special edition, but not my color combo choice.
yep! I'm pretty sure that this is what they aimmed for.
for me, I just like its classic look, along with the string-thru body capability.. the "new" pickup is certainly interesting.. for me it is a very nice, clean bass... kind of a classic stingray, but with some unique features. It will definatelly be a very nice option for people who are looking to purchase a Stingray. They will have the standard production ones, the classics and now this anniversary version. Very nice indeed!
This is a design decision for slap players IIRC.
On MMs that suffer this the G magnets are not as strong as the rest hence the G output is less (simple physics).
Grab a gauss meter and check for yourself if in doubt.
EBMM is also introducing 2 new passive basses to their instrument roster!
I have no issues with this Old Smoothie. That's a nice looking bass!
I'm sure it's a great bass. I am just not a fan of continually rehashing "classics." Music Man has already released the Custom Classics, and now they are reproducing a prototype. Since they are going down this road, why not release the original prototype that had a split pickup in the Stingray position?
If Sterling Ball weren't so hard headed, he could release an active P/J five string with 19mm spacing at the bridge and give the boutique makers some trouble.
Perhaps we should wait and see....looks like they have a P-pickup going on now....^^^
