450watts@4ohm into 750 or 1000?

Here is the deal I have a 450watt @4ohm solid state head and was wondering about headroom? I have a 2x10 8ohm cab 500watts rms and want to add another 8ohm cab. 1x12 250 watts rms or 2x12 500 watts rms, and I don't want to tax the head, be under powered or over. so what is best 750 watts rms 2x10 1x12, or 2x10 2x12 1000 watts rms with my 450watt @4ohm head. any answers? I want to try to stay portable but be able to play with two guitars with half stacks. small, medium, large gigs, but want what sounds best out of these two combinations thanks.

Doesn't really matter. Though the 2x10/2x12 will probably be louder b/c of the extra speaker/cabinet volume, but it has nothing to do with the wattage rating of the speaker cabs. That's just there to give you a guideline of how not to destroy them. Your amp pushes 450w, if you attach 2 cabs to it they're each only getting half of the signal, so you shouldn't have to worry about the cabs, unless you're clipping the amp.
