4X10, considering adding a 15 for more low end. Need a little input.

Kwesi is right. I've found that many manufacturers' specs indicate lower frequency response in their 410 cabs than in their 115s. That's also been the case in my own experience with cabs of both types.

Sounds like the Sansamp bass driver helped out. They make a good product.

I was in the same situation you were in a couple months ago, and I upgraded my Asdown 410 to a Mesa Powerhouse 1200 (which is basically a 410 with a 15 stuck in the middle). I've seen some posts here about other not liking it, but it's worked wonders for me. Though buying such a large cab may not be what you're after (though I believe you mentioned buying an 810..).

This same question is asked, and answered, at about a 3 day interval. A 1x15 goes no lower, nor as loud as, a 4x10, so if you need more than what one 4x10 will give add another 4x10.

Well some people mentioned to try out a 1X15 with my setup to see if worked better for me. The bassist for the other band (whose storage unit we were in) had a 1X15 cab and 100W head that we were going to pair up with my rig, but the 15 was 4ohm and my 4x10 is 8ohm. I wasn't about to start mixing stuff up so I just said not to worry about it (400w 4ohm head + 8ohm 4X10 and a 100W 4ohm 1X15.) The drummer kept insisting that I try to run it all together with the mentality that a 15" = more lows. I had to keep saying it doesn't work that way.

After seeing how loud I could push my rig just by adding a little distortion to it I'm debating on the 8x10 setup. I'm not going with the gold line GK that I mentioned earlier. That was just a really good deal on Craigslist for a gk1001rb head and the cab for $500. I figured the head was worth that and the cab would just be an added bonus. If I didn't like the sound I could sell it off for a couple hundred bucks and put it towards an 8x10 that I'd prefer.

My swr pushes hard enough, but I still wouldn't mind having that GK1001. As for the 8x10, I'd just have to debate on if I want another 8ohm 4x10 or splurge on the big cabinet. If I get the new setup I'll have two sets of gear, which I really don't need living in an apartment since I always play with headphones. There is an SWR Goliath 4X10 at a pawn shop that I could probably talk em down a little on the price, but I think those Goliaths are 4ohm monsters. So my cabs wont really mix.
Or I could switch it up and only use the 4ohm SWR cab and get rid of my current 8ohm 4X10.

The problem is spending $500 on that Goliath, when I could spend $400-500 on a Carvin 8X10 for the same price.
Gig-wise, I'd almost prefer the 8X10 so I won't have to worry about being mic'd at all for a gig later on down the road. Got some choices to make, but now that my rig can pump out more lows, I'm not as anxious to spend money as I was before hand. I've got the option to wait it out and see how things fly later. Just sucks saving up some money for a couple of months only to find that I don't NEEEEED to purchase anything, and having the want for some new gear.. GAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

I learned a lot from browsing thru these forums for the past couple of months. I'm glad I came out and asked a couple of questions I had even if I get hassled for bringing up an sensitive topic.

If I were you I'd snag that 1001RB for $200-300 if I could. That's a deal in itself. I wont be lugging around an 8x10 any time soon, 'specially one that weighs as much as the goldline. Personally I would always want 2 cabs over 1 large one. Way easier for me to transport. I too am learning that I'm probably better off stacking a 2x10 on another 2x10 rather than the 1x12 like I have been. Sometimes I point my cabs in different directions though, like one towards the crowd and one slightly more towards the drummer.

Yeah I think I wanna lean more towards 2 matching cabs.
One of our guitarists said in his last band when they had a live setup they pointed their cabs towards the drummers to act as monitors, and just let the PA worry about getting sound to the club.

The strings on my B.C. Rich are brand new. The bass is only several months old. On my BTB 5 string I changed them about about 4 months ago. I don't play nearly enough to believe they're worn out by any means.

Not even sure what kind of SWR cab I currently have but I can guarantee it's not a Workingpro. There isn't any information on the back to really help either. Just shows the impedance rating, and there's an IN and OUT.

Yes If you want to go with 2 cabs...then go with the 2 410's. I ran a gk 1001rb II with an swr goliath III 410 and swr sob 115 set for about 2 years and the 115 was the weak link. when it came to low end it sucked!!! i ended up getting another 410 about a year ago. big difference!! she kicked butt unlike the 115 and had way more bottom end.. Now because i have always been trading up on stuff. i ended up just a week ago trading my older Goliath III 410 for a SWR Megoliath 810...cause i was tired of packing around 2 cabs. i still do have one 410 for the small stuff if i so need it, anyways i could not be happier. That Megoliath is one masterpiece of work. when it come to low end the 2 410's can not touch it...and that is saying alot cause they kicked a$$ compared to the 410/115 setup. I just had it out here this weekend playing at a big church. and for the first time ever i had to back off my bass and add a lil bit of mids to it cause it was putting out to much low end...if there is such a thing as to much low end. very very happy, cant believe it has taken me 10 years to get one...lol.So my vote is if you can afford it,keep your 410 and just get yourself an SWR Megoliath 810. eazy to move around by yourself thankx to the shower bars,skid rails,and wheel's.and if you have some one to help the handles on the bottom are awesome!!. and if money is a problem like it is for me at times.... i just went with the 12 month payment plan, which made paying for it not hurt so bad!! Jesus, that Megoliath is wicked sweet, but over twice the price of what I'm willing to spend. Lol. I can afford around $400-600 currently for a setup, anything more than that I'll prolly look into financing. (I'm kind of at the tail end of being out of debt and working on rebuilding my credit. So I can afford to buy some of this stuff but trying to obtain it in ways that benefit my credit as well). I don't wanna finance something new and that high priced unless I know I'll be gigging. The guys I'm playing with have all have gigging experience so I'm sure we'll be playing some shows sooner or later (with their connections), but I don't wanna be stuck with gear that I'll never be able to use if I'm not jamming with anyone.

It's hard at times to not be hasty when you've got the money in hand. Just gotta have the patience not to jump on something that I might not want in a few weeks.

As I'm writing this I'm browsing Guitar Center's used listing for Goliaths, and it turns out they've got a Megoliath for $539.99 in Austin, TX. Maybe it IS in my price range! Lol. Seems a little low. It's prolly a little beat. I'll still hold out a bit before deciding what to bite on. Some new gear might be traded in to one of their stores around christmas time so we'll see.

well for sure i would not want a person to take on unnecessary debt that would not be wise. I was able to get my Mego used for $900...which i ended up not paying much for cause i traded my 410 in on it. But i got a good deal. It had only been used 3 times in the last 3 years and been left covered with a cab cover. It was like brand new. I really got the best end of the deal there i figure! But like i said earlier. If it is not in your price range then another goliath 410 is the way to go. you will be very impressed, Just for me i hated packing 2 of them around. But if you are doing stuff that will not always need 810's then i wold not be a bad choice...esp if you cant afford the big price tag!! But yeah my advice stay away from the 115's. Some people love then....me i dislike them very much. but hey each to their own!! Cheers Mate!!

I just went to a pawn shop where my drummer mentioned there was a Goliath for sale. Went to check it out.

They want $650! HAHAHHAHAHHAHA I might offer them $400. No way I'm paying over $450 or so for it. It's an 8ohm cab so it's exactly what I need. I'd be able to run 2X 8ohm 4X10s and this would suit me for a while. I also found out my current SWR cab is a SWR Workingmans 4x10t. Decent reviews for a middle of the range cab. Some people complained about it having enough lows tho.

Anyways. That Goliath III is SOOOOOOOOOOO light. After reading about my cab I realized that it's almost 100 lbs. Hell, that Carvin RB810 is 118lbs. I wouldn't mind lugging an 8X10 around if it's not that much more weight than the current 4X10 I'm using.
That Goliath III feels like it weighs NOTHING. I wouldn't even need to throw casters on it. I just thought that my Workinman 4X10 was normal weight since I haven't really moved around any bass gear other than my own.



P.S. That butterfly guitar threw me for a loop. AHHAH

Man I never thought of the Goliath as being light it weighs about 89lb's...but i guess if you working mans it almost 100 then i could see that.I would say if you can get it for $400 that would be great. i got over $500 my my G III and it was 4 years old and had been used pretty good...but i did keep it in A-1 condition. so me myself dont think that even 600 is bad for it esp when at least here in Canada they are selling for anywhere between $900-to $1100 depending on the time of year and the economy.!!

Maybe I'm wrong. But when I dragged it away from the wall I swear it felt effortless. I know that mine weighs 89 pounds from what I found online. It takes everything I've got to lift it up and throw it in the back of my hatchback. This Goliath III seemed like it barely took any effort to throw around to read the Ohms and stuff on the back.
If I can get em down to $400 I'll prolly go this route for the time being. Might possibly look to sell my head online or something.
