Yes, an excellent and pertinent point. The 'when' (time, tempo, rhythm) and 'how' (tone, dynamics, articulation, ornamentation) are far more important than the 'what' (pitches) when it comes to getting the 'what' to sound musical, IMHO.

My 9 year old son loves it. He like the WWII connection.My parents took me to see this shortly after it was released. It's only been 50+ years but I do remember the melodies pretty well. Time to see it again.
That was another of those "ah ha!" moments. The first things I learned was very pitch specific, and by the way, here are whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes. I played from a pitch perspective.
Then I thought I'll play from a rhythm perspective, and first play a rhythm, second throw in some different pitches of a minor blues scale along the way. That was fun. First time I felt the "groove" by playing a 4/4 2-bar repeating rhythm. Fortunately I have a little rhythm training from playing drums in Jr. High band.
Would really enjoy a rhythm discussion, not sure of the better ways to communicate that in a forum. OT, for another thread...

My grand daughter would love it. She's a singer at home, I think she would enjoy it.
I learned si is the sharped sol, and se is the flattened sol (as an analog to mi/me).
With moveable do, as commonly used here in blighty, the leading tone is Ti, and the minor 7th is Te. Si is augmented 5th and the perfect 5th is Sol. So, in a unique and slightly disturbing turn of events for TB, we're all right!
