I just bought an Ibanez EWB205WNE Exotic Woods 5-String Acoustic-Electric Bass. It came with some pretty crappy strings. It is fretted. Any suggestions on what strings to buy to replace them with? This is my first acoustic and I need some feedback.
Thanks!
I used the D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings on my old fretted acoustic.. I now have a fretless acoustic so I use half rounds .. just regular half rounds as I don't want to mess up the neck but ai wanted a bit of brightness so the half rounds seemed a good alternative.. I like them so far.. they sound great to me..
I might be wrong but from my understanding the major difference between acoustic strings and regular ones is marketing.. You may have to experiment a bit to find what you like..
It depends on what kind of tone you want out of it. Personally, I really don't care for the sound of an acoustic with phosphor bronze strings, so I use LaBella tapewounds. Great thump.
I would use a lite set of GHS Precision flats and buy the B string to go with them. Gave up on phosphors due to noise some time ago. I was, however, impressed with the new Phosphors Fender sells, but I do not think they have a 5 string set.
