5 string for jazz

Hi, i recently just bought an epiphone pro 5 string bass and its a piece of crap. b string not picking up at all and new b string wont even fit all the way through. Im returing it. I am trying to find a 5 string bass that would be good for smooth jazz thats around 600 dollars and havnt found any yet. Could someone give me some advice?

Thanks

A used Peavey Millenium Five USA would be an excellent choice for that style of music. MTD KZ5's have a good modern sound. A used Lakland 55-01 will set you back under 6 bills and they are capable of a wide range of tones, deep to zingy. Or.. try one of the new Ibanez BTB-series.
