5 String P bass

There are some threads out there but searching is tough because you're using a search string ("5") that's shorter than 3 characters. The Google search at the top of the search window should help with that.

That being said, there are quite a few people around here who have them and from what I've seen the overall impression of the Fender P5 (other manufacturers make them as well) is that it's a P bass with a 5th string. In other words it kept the tone of the P bass and the added string retains that overall character so if you like a P bass then the P5 should work for you.

I'm one of those who have one and I like it a lot.

They are good, but the reason they're not more popular is because they're relatively new and only available MIA so are quite expensive. If there was a Squier or SX model (ok, Squier do one but it has 2 jazz pickups, ***?) I would probably buy one. The Yamaha BB415 is a good alternative though!

Would buy one too if there was an MIM or Squier P5.

I am also one of those who have one... I love it.. I used to own a PBass 4 string back years ago, the 5 string is most definitely a PBass in every way except for the low B. I gave it a good run this weekend (I just bought it) and it exceeded my expectations.

Have one as my #1 Precision. Its a fantastic instrument that sounds just like you'd want it to sound. The low B is pretty good, and I use some low tension strings. With higher tension strings it would probably sound even better.
