Are the prices correct? It says that a Fender 5-string costs around $250

I would guess so... I haven't ordered one yet, but the price on the Harley Benton says it includes VAT... and shipping is a set 32.06... so there you go..

Yeah, I saw the price on the Squires and it is lower than ...say Musicians friend...

Seems pretty upright to me.

Factory color- Candy Cola. (No longer offered. )
Maple neck with separate maple fingerboard. (No longer offered. )

Matching HeadStock- painted by Marty Bell- San Diego, CA.

Stainless Steel small string trees- eBay

Blue LED Side markers- FRET FX. ( Not visible from this view )

New nut, with slimmer / Jazz Bass string spacing- Jim Crawford, San Diego, CA.

Strap Locks- Schaller

Vintage Anodized Aluminum Pick Guard- the first one built for P-Bass V- by TONE-GUARD. Incredible
fit and finish, scanned from my Fender original. ( I paid the set-up charges- a standard now! )

Gold plated / brass Tug Bar- eBay vendor.

Pick-Ups- The M&V PBSH060416C-5- High Output version, or an Aero Instrument TYPE 1. The M&V has a little more low-end 'oomph', and the Aero more articulate. Both are outstanding in this bass!

Chrome covers- Neck P/U cover is a Fender Marcus Miller 5 part, the bridge from an eBay
MFG in China- the quality and plating are also outstanding.

Next area I will look at- pre-amps. Either on-board and pedal- open to suggestions.

1st, a 5 string needs active pickups. Why? If you are heavy on the 5th string, sometimes the sound person will turn you down. You will get lost in the mix. You can slightly turn up the highs for a little punch for clarity.

I think you meant an active preamp … most active basses have passive pickups

Bought this 2nd-hand Maruszczyk Jake 5string for €700,-; it has a wonderful low B although it's "only" 34inch scale.

I have a passive 5 string Mike Lull Precision.

It's a PJ. The P sounds just great on its own so the J hardly ever gets switched on. It's a beautiful instrument to play and the sound is evenly balanced across all strings.
