With your Abalone Rickman in it I’d I like V2 better. with a simple geometric thing or nothing I’d like V3.

My wife thinks this is the best fit. If I had a laser cutter or something to precision cut the Rick-man logo, but I'm just not that precise. The little bit of red burst along the edges sets it off nicely I think.
I’d go with why she said. I couldn’t get mine to show that much interest in my hobbies.

I like the contrast of the cream, but they both look pretty great. However the very end being up against the tuning peg is triggering my OCD...
It makes me a little twitchy that I can't get the holes to line up between the strings. But I think I can live with it.
Oh I think I could too, considering how the rest of the bass is turning out.
This is the first piece getting the full finish treatment.
6 coats in, ready for level sanding with 600, I'm really happy with how this is looking.
The plan is another 3 coats, sanding with 800, the 3 more coats and buffing. Should result in a near factory like finish (I hope).
Absolutely transparent, and a definite gloss coat. VU works like the thread suggests.

Things I've learned so far:
1, using VU over Keda water based dye is somewhat problematic. The first several layers pick up the color, and if you sand through them, it reduces the intensity of your dye job.
2. Really, really need to wait at least 12 and better yet 24 hours before doing anything besides a very light brush sanding (like to pop any film bubbles). This will allow the varathane to cure and be hard enough to actually sand, instead of just rubbing off.
Despite rushing a bit on these first few coats, I am happy with the results. Just need to slow down a bit when I get to the rest of the guitar...

So, someone decided that stopping for the cars with lights and sirens wasn't going to happen (despite me being stopped in front of them). So I've been dealing with this instead of making progress on the bass... in the good news column, other than the car nothing seems broken... but I'm spending my shop time dealing with insurance companies and looking at replacements.
Bummer, but glad you're ok. Hopefully the insurance and repair headache is minimal.
Bummer. Hopefully it's just the bumper and there's little to no underlying damage.
Also, it does seem folks are far less willing to even slow down for lights/sirens anymore! My wife and I have noticed it a good bit lately, and, at least around here, it seems the lights/sirens are more often coming from ambulances. Maybe it's just because we both work in healthcare, but that seems even more wrong.

1st of many coats. I used a spray bottle to coat the bass. While not as precise as an actual sprayer, it did pretty well, although there was quite a bit of overspray. I have a couple of runs that will need some attention. Current plan is to let this coat dry completely (overnight), hit it with some 320 and then the next coat. With a goal of adding one coat a day for a few weeks to build up the appropriate layers.
I had a bit of color bleed from the other layers, but I think it's ok... the finish is much flatter than I expected.

First coat. Really liking the color and contrast of the mahogany and walnut! Tomorrow I'll hit it with some 320 to take off some rough patches (despite wetting, sanding, and scraping the surface!) Then we'll really see how the finish process goes.
