5 string thing almost ready...

That ash looks amazing, especially the back grain. Bravo! I love it.

How was making a straight headstock (with no angle?) That might be my first design for simplicity reasons.

I like straight headstocks.
they can be elagant, simple, and very rigid.
of course, some designs need an angled headstock, but I use similar straight headstocks if it is possible.
I used this even with my latest 6 string.
3+3 tuners, no string tree needed.
I use thick headstock material (~20-22mm), and make that drillings to accomodate the tuners, and for the look, too.
this way I get a very rigid HS, with good string breaking angles.

thanks for the responses.

I used 2 component matte lacquer, I don't know if it's PU or what.
I bought it at a car paint shop, they put the components into a bottle, and they said I have 1-2 weeks until it hardens in the bottle :)
I used 3 coats of waterbase lacquer on the body before the spray (2 coats, as I remember), and maybe 3 coats of that 2C spray on the neck, with no primer.
I'm happy with it, I like matte finish, and it holds very well. It's my main bass since I've got it (more than half year), and no serious wear despite the thin coats.

sound (sorry for my playing..) :Link Removed

one-piece ash body, flatsawn ash neck, rosewood, Big Singles, that's all. it's a prototype, I'm planning to build the second one with maple board.

For a long time have I been interested in hearing an ash/ash bolt on bass.
Thanks for posting this!!
Very nice work!
Was it both pickups on the track?

Do you by any chance have a track with the neck P/U soloed, playing fingerstyle?

Just wondering...
:)

as always, sorry for the playing :-/

I think you hear can what is on the track, but first is bridge-neck-both, and the slap style is both pickups on.
(I have a 3 way selector switch, but still wanna try a blend pot. now I rarely use any pickups soloed, they are 99% both on)

please note that the bridge pickup is a bit higher in volume, I noticed it only at this recording.
I think I'll readjust it, to get some more dynamics while slapping.
(oh, and that B string is rumbling a bit in the background... sorry, I can't slap!:hiding:)

so that's it.
I'm using ~4 months old 45-130 Elixir strings, and bypassed the onboard preamp.

"3rd pic: the cavity's plate is ..well... it should be only temporary, because the grain orientation looks odd, but knowing myself, it will take long-long time to replece it.."

The cavity plate looks good... the problem is that sweet wavy grain on the back of the bass will be hard to match up.

Great looking bass, Great Job man.
