I'm curious to hear some opinions regarding the pros and cons of a 5 string set up versus a C extension.

Andy Anderson of the Lyric Opera of Chicago told me he finds the 5 string bass "the more elegant solution" of the two. His Pollmann fiver plays like butter and sounds great. Andy told me getting the setup to that point was rather involved.

There are some excellent players that use neither. The tuning of D A D G can meet many musical solutions as well as C A D G and C G D G. It does require a heavier E string but it does work and is a lot cheaper!!! Its not as hard as you think.
