5 Years Later

I'm not going to babble on for paragraphs about Katrina. Everyone with a television watched at least a few days of footage 5 years ago and has probably passed a "special" on CNN/MSNBC/ABC/ETC sometime this weekend. Personally, I live in the area, so I haven't watched more than 2 minutes of anything Katrina since I turned the TV off on day 4 or 5 after it hit.

With that in mind, I've been meaning to snap the photos I did today for a few years. I've passed this house probably 1000 times since Katrina and it still amazes me. The structure is resting against a levee just south of the I-10/Hwy 11 intersection on the south shore of Lake Ponchartrain. It's about 100 yards off the freeway and probably the same distance from the nearest place it could have come from, the community of Irish Bayou. A decent aerial can be seen on Google Maps that gives you a better idea of location.

This wasn't the only house I've seen deposited on a levee from places unknown, but it's the only one I know of now. Anyway. I found it interesting.

When I am in town for the Steelers game, I am working on getting some of my other construction buddies to come down the Monday after the game and spending a week or so doing some more relief work. Hopefully we'll have some time to catch up with the families we met and came to love like family from our other trips down that way.

Off the subject, but....Last weekend in October? There has been talk of a GTG that weekend. Could be quite timely.
