'55 P for $4500?

http://cgi.ebay.com/1955-Fender-Pre...itar?hash=item230309be1f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

That one's been up before. The way I heard it, that black refinish conceals a multitude of sins.

I'm curious as to how you conclude that the refin hides a multitude of sins. Who told you that? I've owned the bass for 3 years.
It's mine and I'm not hiding anything. It's a great deal,
look at the pix and read my thorough description. I tried to sell it here about a year ago under a different username.
I forgot my old username and changed my email, so I just registered again.
I'm an honest guy, been on ebay since 2001.
No scam
No BS.
Come to my house in SoCal and check it out.
Send a PM and we can talk on the phone.

I'm happy to answer questions here or on the bay.

^well I am nowhere near there nor am I in a position to buy it, but sounds like this guy is putting his money where his mouth is. In such case, I'd say it's as legit as he is aware of. We've all seen hundreds of these "is it a scam" threads calling folks out and not one that I can recall has ever answered up on it.

My hand's out to you for coming out and saying it is your bass.
ANY time a bass like this pops up, where there MIGHT even be a glimmer of a chance that is it not what is listed as (No beef with you sir, nor am i doubting your word or the originality of this bass) then the whole band wagon will jump on it, saying that it's a fake, or its MADE IN CHINA, or it's a relic'd job, blah blah blah.

You could have pictures of this bass being hand made by Leo, with pictures of him doing ALL of the work, every step of the way, and even pictures of him refin'ing it himself, writing LEO MADE THIS IT IS REAL on the wood with a sharpie, and the band wagon here would STILL call you out and say it is fake/reliced/fell from mars/WHATEVER.

My props for you saying IT'S MY BASS, and my apologies if anybody doubt's you/calls you out on it.

Becuase, if a refinished bass is on ebay, it MUST be a scam! (sarcasm)

And now for the disclaimer.
I mean NO Offence to ANYBODY in this thread, nor wish to imply that I have hard feeling's of any sort.
It is just quite common to see threads like this, and while they are good for constructive criticism, and debate, you often see many people shoot and run "its a reliced fake SX bass!!!" and never even support their bogus claims.
Everybody is entitled to their opinion.

Peace, and good luck with the sale. :bassist:

I honestly remember when this was posted on TB i saw the thread and read it. I have seen like 1951's in worse shape for like 10,000+. To me this is a good deal to someone interested in vintage fenders ( which is not me). Just because something is a good deal does not mean its a scam.

Cool bass , in my position i cant justify the price tag hopefully a TB'er gets it.

I may well be completely wrong, and if so I apologize. Several years ago I sat on the sidelines of a discussion of a refinished mid-50s P-Bass that was found to be not at all what the seller described, and because I have a major thing for first-generation Precisions that thread stuck in my mind. I wouldn't make a remark like the one I made out of the clear blue, so there's a good chance I'm mixing your bass up with another that was discussed here or on another forum. Again, I apologize for any misunderstanding on my part.

I think it's beautiful.
Personally, I play 'em. I'm a bass player, like everyone else on this board, and I don't care at all about changed pots, caps, screws, refins, refrets, screws, routes or any other nonsense except, what does it sound like? and, how does it feel?

This one looks darn good on those last two counts. Now if I could just afford to find out for myself.:bassist:

good luck with the sale

True, but the prices for these beasts are driven by the fact that so few are around that don't have changed stuff, and people have historically been willing to pay premium cake for those that aren't monkeyed. Broadcaster is doing the right thing here and pointing them out -- if he didn't, he be called a cheat by the guy who pays premium cake and finds out that all this stuff was not original.

And before you think I'm some sort of "picture perfect bass" freak, I own a couple of killer old Fenders that I bought in ugly-azz condition. I couldn't afford one that was perfect. But they played and sounded great, and the monkey business made it possible for me to get them in my hands.....

So, yeah, there's a place for these axes, no doubt. In fact, I sorta look for 'em like that.....
