I'm a data nerd. So here's the width/thicknesses of my instruments. Yellow highlight is best, and red is worst. None of these is bad AT ALL. The Peavey Grind is my least expensive instrument and is a mod mule for me. People are quick to yell out "Stingray" when they're naming small necked 5ers, and it IS good, but mine at least, is average in the mix of my instruments. If I could only keep one of these, it would be a coin toss between the Yammie and the Ray. The Yammie is my latest acquisition and I find it EXTREMELY versatile, but my Ray is just . . . well, its a Ray and a joy to play. The DJ-5 is an AMAZING sounding bass, but the neck feels slightly chunky and the measurements confirm it (though its still very good).
The Grind neck feels very Ibanez SR-like and you can even feel the slight flexibility in it like an SR. It's not an instrument that makes me want to run home and play it, but it's really a good bass and very attractive. In my stable, it's just a bit of an underdog.

It's not a Stingray Special it's a Stealth SR5 HH. The 55-01 is only thicker by .04mm and only at the nut. At the 12th fret, it's thinner. If you look at the numbers you will see that the variance is pretty darn small and you should also note that they don't take into account the SHAPE profile of the neck.So the 55-01 neck is actually thicker than the ray? Interesting. Is this a stingray special or an older model?
Same here, all the ones I have tried in the 90's had the baseball bat neck as well...I used to play Warwick, baseball bats lol
