6 String Bass Recommendation for Around a Thou.

I do fifths tuning on a 4-string CGDA. What do you tune the sixer to? I've been thinking about a bass vi kind of thing tuned FCGDAE.

The Ibby is AEBF#C#G#
Everything else is BEADGC

I got this one in the summer through trade but the value for the item I had traded was certainly less than $1000 USD. I've owned 2 other Bongos (a 4 and a 5) and paid less than $1000 USD for each of those. Granted, many people don't like the style of the Bongo so that's up to you but I would say they are one of the best instruments I've ever played. The electronics are so good.

The Ibanez BTB676 has my attention.

There are plenty of nice BTBs out there in the S/H market for modest $. I recently bought a new BTB846V and in the same week (after I bought it) there was a nice one for 1/4 what I paid new in excellent condition.Many of the PUs in these are Barts, and they have a page showing which are easily upgradeable because they're standard sizes.

I have have a B-206SM and for the money it's an AWESOME!!!! instrument, the neck is to die for!!!!
The pickups are a little thin sounding to me but I play thru a ToneBone BassBone and it sounds great.

Some of the Indonesian Ibanezes are phenomenal. Some are merely good. If you liked the BTB that you played, then it IS good, IMO, but I'm an Ibanez booster in general so there is some bias there. If you get a chance to play a higher end SR sixer, I recommend it. I prefer the SR's more roundly radiused fretboard to the BTB's flatter one.
