I learned how to setup my bass over the last two days. Once I realized that I had the tools necessary, I thought "okay let's give this a whirl."
I am right handed. My six string bass is a Peavey fury VI. It has been a challenge to learn, and I am committed. Mainly because I have not developed a comfortable technique yet with my right hand. I want to use all five fingers on my right hand and use my palm to mute.
The good point in this story is that in learning to setup the action, I made a breakthrough, that was sort of a "no duuh!". I now set up the action of different strings at slightly different heights. Wish I had thought of this a long time ago. The low B string I put slightly higher. I also made the high C string as low as possible without getting fret buzz. My picky is my weakest link in finger strength.
The bass has two truss rod adjusters at the pickup end of the neck, by the way. Many of you probably already do this setup. Wish my teacher had put the thought in my mind.
Any exercises or ideas regarding how to best use all my fingers comfortably - I am all ears.
