6-string?

I am looking to upgrade to a 6-string bass. I Have a five string dean edge bass. my price range is around 400-600. I was looking at the ESP LTD D-6 or the Schecter stiletto custom 6?

Both good choices, the Schecter can be a little heavy. You might also check out a used Ibanez SR506 or Carvin LB76 as they would be in your price range.

I had a Carbon LB76, and while a great bass I found that the b string was noticeably quieter when the bridge pickup was soloed. I attributed this to the regular size j pickup not being wide enough to fully capture the strings vibration.

That's odd, I've never had that problem, it's a pretty wide spread on that pickup. I typically use the stock stacked humbuckers, but you definitely wouldn't have the problem with the bridge humbuckers or soap bars.

I think its 16.5 mm, a bit narrow for me actually.

My Ibanez is 16.5, and Carvins feel wider to me. I guess that's not much to go on, tho.

They feel comfortable to me after 21 years of playing the LB76s. Slapping is no problem.
