62 jazz refinished and refretted

So you think it was converted to a three knob at some point based in those pics?

judging that the pickguard, bridge and everything else appears to be original (including the control plate mounting screws, and it never had the four felt mute system on it), I believe that that one was originally a 3 knob and not a stack knob.

Here's one at the Richmond, VA Guitar Center. Hope this works.

Here are the details in this one...

Looks like pickups had been replaced at some point, and then originals put back in. Can’t verify that the pots are original as too much ugly soldering.

-********* Neck matches the body, it is from March, 1962.

-********* My tech looked at the neck and said that is has fall away after the 12th fret, he didn’t see a hump.

-********* String height – 12th fret: E = 7/64 ***G = 6/64,** 20th fret: E = 10/64, G = 8/64

-********* Electronics are good, nothing scratchy and are fully functional.

-********* We have the original hardshell case, but unfortunately the pickguard is the only thing in it. No original ashtray or thumbrest.

They want $3999.

Getty 402 I'm located in Richmond, va. Which GC is this in short pump or midlothian?

Thanks for the info on the pots. Does the middle one look like its from the same time period or is it completely off?

And there's seems to be some wiring that isn't cloth covered and has a sleeve on the joint where the two writes comes together. Seemed out of place to me...

Thanks again for the help!

most of the wiring looks like it's the original cloth wire (some of it has white paint on it) and there's splices in it too. you have to realize that it was diassembled (probably a few times) to be refined so the wire and joints won't be original. the bridge pickup pot is not the same brand that fender used at any time and the switchcraft output jack looks to have been replaced more recently too.

Elderly bass: you were quoted $4750 lowest, no tax if you're out of State, it has it's headstock logo. Looks like a refret to me as the frets appear wide- so no hump, has all of it's parts (original saddles included). I greatly love this tort guard over the GC one.

GC bass: $3999, GC charges sales tax for even out of State unless you're in a no sales tax State (so now this closes the gap to a few hundred $). Missing headstock logo, mismatched pots and some wiring. The pickguard has been off for decades with the original holes plugged and no original screws included, and it's now questionable if the guard has shrunk or curled.

I like what I see in the Elderly bass more.

Speaking of which...why oh why with all the technological advancements in plastics that can simulate anything, why the Custom Shop cannot get within a 1000 mile radius to the look of a 60's tort pickguard! Just look at that 3-dimentional depth and glow!

+1. i've been saying the same thing for 25 years. and they can't get the look or color of the late 60's ones either.

+10

The newish (post 2000) tort guards look like crap. The closest we got to the vintage ones was in the 90s, the guards on those reissues sometimes look similar to the late 60s/early 70s guards. But that's about it.
