63 Jazz worth 6K?

Depends how that bass sounds and how it feels in your hands.
If she rocks your muse and sounds great sure she's worth the price.
If she does not, it's worth very little.

Also be cautious there lots of parts and fake vintage instruments in this current market.

Exactly! I'm not serious about the 63. Even if that's a fair market price, that's way more than I would spend on a bass.
I do love the look of those old basses - just thought I'd share and see what folks thought about the originality.

I though the question in this thread was wether 6000 $ (can) is in the realistic pricearea for a -63 jazzbass with the mentioned mods... not wether we personally would want to spend that money on the bass mentioned.

So if it is a legit -63 jazz that it seems to be and the modifications didn't damage anything I'd have to say 'of course it's a fair price.
That has nothing to do with wether we personally have that kind of money to spend or if I even like old jazz basses.
Of course you could argue you'd buy 6 good basses for that kind if money instead... but I don't think that's the question here.
To someone who's in the market for a 15000$ Fodera 15000$ is the marketprice for that object... and the same goes for this vintage jazz. It's not easy finding a 63-jazz and if you're in the market for one this is definitely a fair price slot.

I just pieced together a mid 70's Jazz Bass using an original neck and body. I put in Fender Vintage '64 pickups and I also splurged on an original era case. I have $1200 invested. Much more then my usual cut off of $800 I will spend on a bass. I thought I was going to sell it for a modest profit but couldn't since it sounds and feels so darn good. Unless I get shot in the ass with gold nuggets, I'm not spending over $1200 on a bass.

I just played this a few days ago and honestly it was "meh" (to me....and well the store owner too...). We both thought the Flea Jazz sounded better!

If your question is really "is that a fair price" and it's $6k Canadian dollars, then that's ABSOLUTELY a fair price for that '63 J bass. It's not a steal. It's not overpriced.

Not worth it to me to spend that much. I have too much fun piecing together fender type basses.

The original Badass bridge generally required routing to mount on a Fender. Horrible modification, btw So are those incredible ugly replacement tuners!

^^ I got lucky with my P bass- it had a Badass 1, but wasn't routed for it.
A threaded vintage style bridge dropped right in, and cut half a pound off the weight.

I vote a BIG 'nope'. After a minute to think about it, its horrendously overpriced. If you're buying this as an instrument to play, you can buy the equivalent bass to this for a lot less. If you're buying this on speculatiom, you'll need to plan to hanging on to it for a long time.

Weird that in the second picture from the left in the ad, the grab bar below the G string is off. It's on in pics one, three, and four. Guess they wanted to show it with and without. Definitely the same bass in all the pics.

It's too rich for my blood, but that's not what you asked. I would say $4600 USD for a '63 Jazz in that condition with those mods is probably a reasonable figure for someone who's in the market for one.
