I've seen the 70s EB-3s, and I saw the pickup placement is different, however I've never heard one. How does the sound differ. Are there any classic rock tunes that have 70s EB-3s on them?

I've played plenty of SGbasses and have a 74 EB3L.. So I can't compare it to other 70s EB3s. But.. The EB3L is long scale and has the neck pickup almost in Pbass placement, it's a lovely fat woody tone with a nice scooped clarity, nothing like the woofiness of a hard up against the neck mud bucker.
Thanks, I was wondering about the one with the different pickup placement for the mudbucker. Seems very interesting. Are they very common I see them on reverb allot?
I briefly loaned a seventies EB0 (with the pickup in the middle). It sounds like a sixties EB0, but not THAT woofy/wooly. It's a bit more versatile. But that's not the only difference, as the seventies EB0 has a resized body, and a neck made from maple.

70s EB3s had thicker bodies, three piece maple necks and a toned down mudbucker it's output was about 28k compared to a 60s at 32k. Here is some great live footage of Black Oak Arkansas, their bass player using a 70s EB3L ! He really gets cranking around the 4 min. mark. Live through a good tube amp( he's using like six SVTs!) these basses really come alive.

I would love to try a 70's EB3 shorty with that pup placement and thicker body. All the other "normal" EB's I have tried I didnt like at all, but I still feel there is potential...
