70s Vintage SVT storage question

Thanks for all the thoughts and advice -- one thing to know about MT is we are very dry, so condensation is relatively rare. That being said, I think all the cautions are valid. I am going to put the head inside, and may have to let the cab stay in the garage, but cover it more carefully. Or, I might just buy the house next store and turn it into a raging Funk Palace, just gotta check with my wife first...

Just a thought, and other might be able to chime in, but if you can put it up on a milkcrate, keep it away from walls (the more open the area the better), and drop in some moth balls or peppermint, I think it would drastically reduce the chance of mice taking refuge therein.

I've got another cautionary tale of mice infestation in an SVT. Years back I bought an old '69 blueline that was stored by the previous owner. When I took it to a local shop for repair the tech called and told me he almost refused to service the amp due to the horror show of a mouse nest located under the chassis. He claims to have used an entire can of Deoxit to clean the thing. I'd look into a road case for long term storage!

I too have to keep my gear in an unheated garage. As there is a room above it it’s warmer, slightly, than the outside temperature. I have a digital thermometer on a wall by the elevator door so I can keep an eye on the temperature. All of the gear is kept inside their covers and on the wheeled dollies I built to move them. Amps are in SKB cases.

The only problem I have ever had was when I took my Acme speaker cabinets in to a gig when they were very cold and pumped a low B into them without letting them warm up enough. Cracked a surround on one driver in each cabinet. That was a very long night! :(

I keep my tube amp in the house and my Berg 6x10 in my garage. I keep it up above the ground so there is air flow and the cab is resting in it's cover.
I let it acclimate, in it's cover for at least half an hour before I remove the cover at a gig.
As others have said, bring the head in, don't worry about the cab.
