Get a good set of strap locks. There is no modification and they are totally reversible. Or if this idea is totally adverse to you, Planet Waves makes a strap that has built in strap locks that ratchet on to your strap buttons.
Strap Locks. Schaller or Dunlop, take your pick either work well. It will cost you less than twenty bucks and is well worth the added insurance. Bonus, save your original strap buttons and screws. This mod will not hurt the value of your bass if you keep the originals as they are easily reinstalled, as long as you have them.
