'76 Rick 4001

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by gottawalk, Apr 16, 2006.

  1. I've got one. Want to use it to "upgrade". I'm not going to sell it here, just wanted to know what it might be worth in "fair" condition. Buckle wear on the back, (from before I bought it), but that's about it. The white color is a faded off-white/yellow, now. Still has the "Rick-O-Sound" cable with it and hardshell case. I've been searching around the internet for comparisons and I'm just looking for opinions here on what to ask for a fair price for it.

    Thoughts?

    Depending on its condition and originality, it would sell for between $1500.00 - $2000.00 on Ebay. This is providing the truss rods are in good condition and haven't been abused.

    The value of a 4001 from the early and mid 70's has been steadily increasing over the past couple of years.

    Good luck.

  3. Thanks for the reply.
    I've noticed the prices similar on ebay, but haven't seen too many selling, yet. Still tracking some. Thanks for the input.:)

  4. I'd say that's way too much. More like $900 - $1200.

  5. I sold my '77 4001 last year for $1400. It was in fair condition (considering all the work I put into it when after I bought it).

  7. Sorry, I've been away;
    Wow! How did you do that? Is there a way to put together a databass, (pardon the pun, there...), on Ebay to track sales? That's really something. I see where you got your $ range from, looking at that. :)

  8. I'm just nerdy enough to keep track of Ric basses on Ebay in an Access database.

  11. Gottawalk: I suggest you keep it. This has seller's remorse written all over it. Five years from now, we'll be reading your post on how much you regret having sold that great old Rickenbacker. I've got 1974 4001 (white as well) and I still use that baby for gigs all the time and wouldn't sell it for twice the highest price on the list.

  12. Yeah, that's been part of the decision process on this one... That will be the final word, after all is said and done. It's a really cool axe, but I haven't touched it in years :eek: , but I'd bet that once it's sold, there'll be the perfect opportunity to use it in some theater gig, or something.

    Just testing the waters right now, because of GAS for another Warwick... Thanks for the thoughts!
    ;)
