Hey JT - what do all those knobs and switches on the 8's do? I am guessing EQ, vol, coil splits, piezo vol, piezo tone, midi switching?

the fretted is described pretty completely on the cherished challenges page, and the fretless is very similar. 3 band eq, vol, piezo/mag blend, synth vol, and a full band of parametric eq (q/cut-boost/freq). the switches are for turning on the instrument, turning on the parametric eq, a 3-way switch for the pickup (series, single, parallel), synth/mag switch, synth patch selector.

I don't know what it is, but even though all those 7 strings that JT owns are bigger and have one more string than the only 6 string I own, but they look mighty small compared to all those 8's, 9's, and stew's woppa of a 10 string... ;)

Seriously though, I'm still getting used to having 2 extra strings, but the sight of that big 10 makes me want to run away screaming like a little girl.

Hmmm.

Classic over-compensation.

Look at these things!! The necks are wider than my thigh!

How can you play soemthing like that??

I wonder why we don't see this kind mosnter building with guitars?

Okay - now my original non sarcastic comment.

These pics are nice. Anyone know where I can hear these things being used?

there are a few places where you can hear 'em, JS. our own John Turner has some samples up on http://www.lordonly.net, Bill "The Buddha" Dickens has some ripping clips at http://www.billthebuddhadickens.com, and there's a killer piece called "Left of Center" on the Conklin download page (Dickens again) -- http://www.conklinguitars.com.

if you want to hear these basses recorded super low tech (still digital), I've got some stuff up on my homepage, http://www.subcontrabassist.com, or on the BOG site (in a much more standard context) at Link Removed

happy surfing!

from the lows,
