....from the low end....of the budget:D

Bill Dicken's site is cool with the video.

But I have to say. I'm not sure I like the very high upper register sound on that 9 string.

There's one clip where they're doing a funked up version of Miles songs Nardis and while he's playing the melody and cool lines- the sound just seems kinda plucky - but really high plucky.

I play piccolo bass - strung A,D,G,C,F and even that high F at the 24th fret sounds kinda plucky.

I guess it's a preference thing. But he certainly can play that beast!

actually, I've never been a raging fan of his tone. what I enjoy about Mr. Dickens is his quieter, more melodic playing. he was cool enough to spare me a few minutes at NAMM for the last couple of years and he's kind and mellow. he explained his ideas really clearly. I don't know that I'll ever be able to execute them at warp speed like he does, but that's not really my bag.

I'd love to study with the man, though!

Something makes me think that when you walk into the Conklin shop, there are bins everywhere with millions of those individual string bridges. Big tupperware bins. And every week, another truck comes in filled with boxes of individual string bridges. There's a whole team of loaders that throw the boxes in a line into the building, and someone with an OLFA exacto-knife that opens the boxes, and dumps the bridges into empty tupperware bins that continue on a conveyor belt back into the shop. The boxes from the truck are then thrown into the furnace, to power the entirety of the shop.

They have an entire facility across town for tuners.

jeff - you're in san rafael? I'm 2 minutes away from you (I'm in novato)... here - I'll put my accugroove 21" sub against the floor and play a low F# - okay, now did you feel the ground shake? :D

Well I didn't feel it - but I'm at work in the city.

However - my cat was probably like ***!!!! :bassist:
