8 string P pickup selection..

Hey all...I'm currently putting together an 8 string project consisting of an old Hondo P-Bass copy and a Warmoth conversion neck. My question to everyone is which P bass pickup do you think would take full advantage of the chimey nature of the octave strings while still keeping a good low end? Any and all input is appreciated! Thanks

Not that I have a lot of experience with it, but I'll let you know how mine works once i get the new bridge on it and fire it up.

I bought this one from a fellow TB'er. I'm thinking if it doesn't sound like I want, I may update the EMG to a newer pickup with a nice preamp, or maybe a Lace pickup with a P-retro.

I had a nice Hondo II once that I made into a fretless.

Regarding P pickups in 8-strings. I know this very well!

I made this bass, and originally it had two DiMarzio P's in it. They were too harsh in the upper mids. You also heard more of the octave strings than the fundamental. The stock Fender pickups I had in it sounded better.

I ended up winding some low impedance pickups which gave it a nice smooth tone, and you could hear everything nice and even.

So pick something that's not too hot, or even a pickup on the warmer side.

Dimarzio split P. Has the rails instead of pole peices optimized for regular 4 string. Rails would help even string pickup for 8string. Also a little smoother for the treble. More a punk rock P voice with the regular model P being more agressive. Not as crunchy as EMG etc but still more then the split P. I like the regular model P pup better myself. But for your case the split would prob be better choice
