800$ what do i get?

-looking for software that i can record separate tracks on that'll run on xp OR vista, preferably xp if it can only run on one
-looking for a sound card or someway to run a mixer into my computer
-looking for whatever cables i need to run my mixer into my computer
-looking for a usb compatible cord that i can run my mixer into my computer with in case we record at someone else's house or something
-looking for what cables i should use for running mics and running lines out of amps and how long they should be etc.

I'm going to use sure sm58s and sm57s for micing because for some very odd reason i have a ton of them?

Why do you want to record? What's the ultimate goal of the recording? Are you wanting to capture your original songs for posterity or fame? Are you simply trying to get some music to put on your myspace page? Will you be recording groups of people or only one instrument at a time?

Do you realize that every hour you spend trying to figure out how to hook up and run your gear is an hour that you aren't practicing to be a better bass player (or writer)?
