80's Retro Sound

Any ideas on a good synth sound for bass. I use an Ibanez and Fender Jazz going out of a Digitech Bp80 into a direct box and no amp. (we use in-ears so no need for the amp on stage. (which I only use for quick tuning and "some" flang and phaser sounds, but I really do not like most of the effects, I have it so I use it mostly for tuning.

We play the 80's stuff like, Missing Persons, Talking Heads, Flock of Seagulls (you get the idea) and I need a good synth sound, with an effects pedal.

Any good ideas?

Keyboard ... it's easier than you think and sounds better than any pedal, cheaper alternative than most as well...

I'll second a keyboard. I use an M-Audio Ozonic and Reason 4.0 for my synth sounds. You can download free Reason refills with settings for everything from Moog, Prophet, Oberheim, etc....
