Hey I'm looking to get a new rig, i play mainly reggae with Fender P bass. I need enough power for small to medium venues. I also don't really stray that much from a solid, low, clean tone. I got a budget of $850 and a very open mind, looking for some advice...thanks

$850 to work with, what's the best rig

The GK heads from RMC Audio are priced exceptionally well. The 700RB and Avatar 212 cabinet would be in your budget and would sound pretty good.
For Reggae though I owned a GK and it may not be the best match.

Don't go with something you will regret 3-4 months down the road. You may lose money when you want to revamp. That said, I've never tried the Avatar cabs but I don't think that dozens of your TB bretheren could be wrong.

Yep Avatar 212...they are out of stock till the 15th of October I believe.

A Presonus Tube Pre+QSC power amo might be a great start. $40 for the tube pre used andaround $450 for a used QSC. Then you can upgrade the preamp and still have a very powerful poweramp.

Really any head you can get for $500 in the classifieds here should work. Just my opinion. would shoot for 400+watts.

I just got a used (but mint condition) Genz Benz Neo Pak with its carrying bag and the GB Neox 212t cab for $900 shipped... Im sure you could find a nice deal like that if you wanted to. Theres lots of good ones on these forums!

I think Avatar is a good bet, I love my Neo 212. I don't play raggae much so I don't know exactly what head to recommend. I really like my GK for rock but for reggae I'm not sure.

Your $850 towards a good used rig could end up buying you a really nice $1500-$2000 outfit.
