$850 to work with, what's the best rig

I am certainly a big fan of the LMII, but another killer bang for the buck option would be either a Carvin B800 or B1500 with one of their LS1503's, which is actually a PA cab, but it sounds phenomenal on bass, and only costs $350.
Small to medium rooms... I'd think the Avatar 4x10 or 2x12 serve you well. I would probably lean toward the 4x10 as you will no doubt be goosing the low's and while I am ntot a huge fan of the traitional 4x10 - in your case I'm in favor of 4 speaker to take the load rather than 2.
For heads ...
BBE BMax and a used Carvin/QSC/Crest/Peavey/Crown power amp
a QSC RMX 850 or Crwon CE-1000 would do nicely. Good to excellant condition in the used market - $200 to 250 ...
Smaller / lighter ? GK 700/800/1001 depending on what you find.
I'd do the rack rig myself ...

what about the GK 800RB? i think thats pretty worth it.

More power and flexibility is available in a rack rig - but there is the attraction of 1 box and 1 on/off switch - no question.
For those folks considering a used integrated head - GK should always be on the list IMO. Great and near indestructible. Depending on the budget - The Eden WT-400 should be on the list as well...
I did a couple of gig's with a WT-400 and an Avatar B212 neo and for relatively low dough - a really good sounding setup. I also used the Eden with a Bag End 2x10 - that was better tonally but the BE cab was more power hungry than the Avatar - small box vs bigger box I guess. with the limited power, only 400 watts into 4 ohms, the Avatar was the better pairing overall. I did miss the hi's on the BE cab but the low's and the mid's were right there.
I'm biased towards that BE cab. BE just may have the best passive crossover and tweeter arrange ment in the biz. That co-ax 10 is just so smooth ...
Remember you can usually get a lot of rig for a good price if you look as well-cared-for used equipment. People trade up all the time, and the gear they trade in is usually in very good condition, maybe only minor blemishes, and hell, it's an amp, as long as it's fully functional and loud a few road scars just add personality.
With $850 to play with, I'd look for a used GK 700RB head and the 4x10 cab of your choice. Remember it's not just the amp; a good amp can sound terrible through a bad cab, so pay attention not how the amp sounds run through the cab, AND how the rig sounds when you play YOUR bass through it.

I agree. Shop used. I just picked up a Peavey T-Max in good shape for $200. That leaves a lot left over for cabinets (2 used Bag Ends, 2 new Avatar 2x12's, a nice used 410, etc.)

I just got a used (but mint condition) Genz Benz Neo Pak with its carrying bag and the GB Neox 212t cab for $900 shipped... Im sure you could find a nice deal like that if you wanted to. Theres lots of good ones on these forums!

There are deals on the Genz 212t. I got mine for something similar. But I think it will come in with a good amp at a hair over your price range, and you'd have to be patient to get one used. It has a full bass tone when a full bass tone. I'd take it out without hesitation to play deep dub sounds.

I was going to recommend a used power amp and a SANSAMP RBI with a good 15 or 2-12 of some sort.
I'm with ya on the rack rig. Best way to get power on a budget.
I like's me some Bag End but for Reggae ? The BE 15 ? hmmm. Maybe like 8 of them or more likely their 18's... Nice cab's no doubt but not a whole lotta low end there. Those bad boy's are all about the cut through.
