I see it as indicative of the deep influence of classic rock among the predominant age group here. Pickett's song is a little earlier, but you really kinda need to be of a certain age to remember when either of them were current. I am not old enough to remember Pickett's song being on the radio, and I'm in my 60's. The first time I ever heard it (and fell in love with it,) a very fine local horn band was playing it. It hits far more of my buttons than that overdone Tutone thing, but that's the one most people in my demographic probably remember hearing a lot.i thought wilson's 634-5789 would be the runaway winner --- not so much based on age, but rather the idea that it's a soulful R&B tune with a deep pocket/groove. i'm seeing the poll results as: more rockers than soul/R&B-ers.
i'm surprised with the results so far (and TBH: a little disappointed). i wonder if i could make the argument that the results are "rigged!"![]()
