You laugh but people have been using hot water tank heating elements as dummy loads for years. I have some here that I've used when working on amps, they do a good job as a resistive non inductive load. Mostly, I use non inductive resistors bolted to a heat sink plate.

There is also a product called a Heathkit Cantenna which is a paint can filled with oil and a dummy load which is used to optimize the antenna tuning on radio transmitters.

OP, check out the Peavey Auto-Match II. Not sure if it's what you need, but look into it. I remember a company called Stinger(for car audio) had something similar.
That is pretty nifty. I actually think it may do what he's asking. I understand how transformers can raise and lower voltage... I'll have to read up ( not going to, but I should ) and see how the resistance/impedance is effected by a transformer as well.

But.. at $150, it's probably best to sell a cab and get what you need.. or rewire the 210 to 16Ohms. Thanks for posting that.

Out of curiosity, how hot do the dummy load resistors get? Those are intended for testing amps right? I'm wondering how much heat energy an amplifier is putting out if the sound was heat instead.

Warm to the touch, or like really hot?

Purely academic, I'm not going to do it,promise, i only have 450 watts, I'm not going to waste them on that.

1 W = 3.412142 BTU/hr

So 450 watts = 1,535.4639 Btu's or what the average crock pot puts out on high.
