9 volt to 18 volt.....

I think I'll go with parallel, longer battery life sounds good to me.... since I'm trying to sorta recapture my old '76 MM String Ray vibe, and it was 9 volts, I'll stick to the 9 volt solution....

Series = double voltage
Parallel = double capacity

Only if you're driving an ohmic resistor. A bass preamp and/or active bass pickups are not an ohmic resistor. In other words, active electronics don't draw double current just because you present them with double voltage, so the 18V setup won't draw double the current of a 9V setup and run out of juice at the same time.

So in terms of active bass electronics it's more like this:
  • Series = more available voltage & double the milliamp-hours = more headroom & longer (not double, but not far from it) battery life
  • Parallel = same voltage & double the milliamp-hours = double the battery life

Given this set of tradeoffs, go series if the increased headroom makes a difference to your ears. You get increased battery life along for the ride. If series does absolutely nothing for you at all, then parallel gets you a clean double of battery life.

Given the above, I'd say give it a shot with series.

A series wiring harness that won't require modifying a preamp is easy to put together. Get 3 9V wiring harnesses and solder red wires to black wires in a circle.
