90’s MusicMan Sting 3EQ preamp / Di options.

Hello bassers…

Although the MMSR has an active onboard 3EQ option, I am very curious how I could potentially modify this sound from a well matched suitably preamp / Di pedal / box…

Noble is way too highly priced for me…
Origin Effects Super Vintage seems ok…

Has anyone dabbled with such an experiment with any such pedals to truly enhance the already modifiable tones of the MM’s EQs?

This is JUST for home recording currently…

Please see attached current pedal chain…

Thank you in advance for your help.

Well, literally every 3 band EQ StingRay (or otherwise) ever recorded, went through some additional EQ and processing, as part of the tracking, mixing, and subsequent mastering...

So, choose your poison.

If you’re just planning to use this for recording, why would it need to be a pedal? Why not a piece of rack gear or a good quality plug-in?

On every recording I’ve played on, whether engineered by me or someone else, and whether the bass had an onboard EQ or not, there was compression and additional EQ farther down the line. Any good sounding EQ should serve you just fine in this task - it shouldn’t need to be taylored to work well with a 3-band Ray.

I had read a few post that some players turn Stingray EQ fully CCW with a Bass maybe 10-20%;

Takes some Stingray character out and gives a more generic passive type tone and easier to shape with external preamps/pedals; also good for recording

I have tried this with my Stingray Special and found when playing along with some tracks it fits/blends better to my taste

This EQ setting will allow you to use auxiliary equip to such as a preamp pedal to have more say in shaping tone
