Gig came up thats 90 miles (about 1 hour 40 minutes from me) and will pay $200.00.

Details overall are sketchy/non-existant but so far the B.L. that sets these things up hasn't led us into anything thats been truly bad. It's supposed to pay $200.00 per person.

Is that reasonable? I've driven as far or further for less in the past but these days I try to keep those long distance gigs to a minimum, mainly because I have trouble staying awake on the drive home...That basically means stopping every 30 minutes or so to nap, or worst case getting a motel room, taking an Ambien and sleeping for 4-5 hours in a real bed.

I think it's a reasonable pay for the travel, but then again i have the ability to stay awake for a couple hours after a gig to drive home. No naps, motel, or ambien required. I guess what i am saying is that the cost of the gig seems a bit higher for you then for me. Try taking a nap the day of the gig or sleep in that day so you can do the haul.

“Supposed to pay $200.”
I wouldn’t go anywhere until this is clarified..
I’ve done gigs for less with same trip..

This B.L. usually comes through. Theres always a first time though...this is really one of those instances where my inner voice is saying "No Way", but as it stands now Im the only one that would be saying no I think.

Sorry i didn't get the whole picture.
Are u in the area with your band? are you going to share a ride or are you driving solo?

Also is this originals or cover band?

If it is original band you should definitely go also to promote your work to another audience, even if you have to drive 2 hours more.

If it is cover band, also i think it is a reasonable payment.

Finaly, living in a big city, some times it takes more than 1.5 hour to drive to another area of the same city, so it doesn't seem such a drama.

So YES, take the gig.

Still working that part out...in all likelihood driving solo though I am trying to talk them into renting a van and just driving up together. Band is spread out, some live 40 min sought of me, others an hour east of me.

Covers...

age? health?

i make the 2 hour trip between two cities regularly (125+ miles, and sometimes i'm toting a bulky 10,000 watt PA) in order to play gigs/music. i don't see this as a 'biggie'. we obviously have a different POV* on gigging/playing.

50, pretty healthy for a guy my age compared to my peers and even folks ten years my junior.

Biggest issues for me are:
1) Pay isn't really that great to me...by the time you factor in vehicle wear and tear, gas, etc...You are probably down to it being a 100 dollar gig.

2) Details are vague and I was hoping that with this band vague gigs would be a thing of the past for me. My perception of this current band is that they wouldn't be ones to run into territory that was vague or offered no details, but so far all I've heard is $200.00, private party..No start time, no end time...etc. Chances are it's all good, but still.

3) Again the thing weighing on my mind the most is the ride home. I've recognized I have a problem staying awake at the wheel on hour plus rides home, so need to now figure out what to do about it.

Chances are I'll go ahead and do it and do what i have to about the post gig drive even if it means ambien/motel/4-5 hours sleep.

Oh, one other thing. I forgot to mention..the B.L. is setting this up, but isn't even going to be there himself..he's getting a sub for himself....:woot:

but: not too shabby, either.
2) Details are vague
...at the present: you'll have to find out more, of course. you could always ask.
3) Again the thing weighing on my mind the most is the ride home
if you can't drive 90 miles without the risk: take a pass. your motel/ambien plan seems counterproductive, IMO.

good luck with your decision(s)!

Is this a typical 4 hour/ 3 set cover gig? I know you said the details of the gig were hazy at best, but is this what the band typically does?

$200 for an hour + 40 min drive is ok. (Anything less than $200 is kind of lame, but work is work and sometimes you just gotta take what you can get. But I digress...) Take the gig.

Depending on how much mileage you get it might cost like $20 in gas? Possibly tolls.

I'm used to the drives by now, but if you have to grab a room then it's probably not worth it.

Coffee is cheaper than a hotel.
Carpooling seems like a wise alternative.

Honestly coffee doesn't even work. Not sure what the problem is...I don't think its narcolepsy, but the last few long distance (for me thats over an hour) drives I've done Ive noticed myself nodding off more frequently. Just told them I'd take, but Im working on carpooling.
