90 miles for $200.00? Reasonable?

Gig came up thats 90 miles (about 1 hour 40 minutes from me) and will pay $200.00.

Details overall are sketchy/non-existant but so far the B.L. that sets these things up hasn't led us into anything thats been truly bad. It's supposed to pay $200.00 per person.

Is that reasonable? I've driven as far or further for less in the past but these days I try to keep those long distance gigs to a minimum, mainly because I have trouble staying awake on the drive home...That basically means stopping every 30 minutes or so to nap, or worst case getting a motel room, taking an Ambien and sleeping for 4-5 hours in a real bed.

In Los Angeles, some gigs are only 20 miles away yet it will take an hour and 40 minutes to get there with traffic.
$200 each these days for a show is not bad for a club, tavern or medium to small event.

This is a personal decision. It’s gonna be a different answer for you than for the next guy. For me, it’s just a bit too far away to make it worthwhile. For me at 25, it would have been no decision - take the gig.

Only conceivable reason for me to take now would be if it’s a call that I don’t normally get and I thought more work in-town work might follow.

thats like asking "is it worth buying an engagement ring?"

well, i cant say. was for me. is it for you? only you can know.

sounds like you'd rather not.

i've driven much further for much less and been happy i did. other times i've driven 5-10 minutes for a gig in my hometown for good pay and been miserable that i did.

I have a friend with a t-shirt that reads:

MUSICIAN
A Person who drives
$5000 worth of equipment
100 Miles
For $50

Last week, I played a Hotwire bass through DNA and made $70, but they fed us too.

Music is an economic decision as logical as buying a sports fisherman with triple Yamaha’s
in order to save on the cost of mackerel steaks.

I am doing 150+ mile gigs for that kind of money or even less. I drive there and home, making a 300 mile drive + the whole gig in one day.
