A 20th anniversary 5 string MM?

The SR5-HH is where it's at. I played an L2500 for years, but that bass was all attack and sustain, but not much tone blossom. So I sold it for a single H SR5. Well not having a neck pickup that I was used to, left something to be desired since some of my lowend 'woof' was gone. So the SR5-H went and in its place is the HH...holy cow! That's the tone monster, and the greatly useful feature is switching the pickups to single coils modes.

Wassa problem, Bart? I'm in the same boat. I see it this way. The Dargies (mine's a SR5 HH too) will deliver in, say, February or March. Gotta pay when they deliver, right? Right.

Order window on the 20th SR5 will open, I think, at NAMM in January. If the Bongo introduction in 2003 was instructive, the 20ths won't deliver until the end of summer, maybe fall, perhaps as late as November (that was the case with the Bongo).

So we have all summer to mow yards, rake leaves, deliver newspapers - it's okay!

Jack

*can't wait*

Let's see...the MM doesn't have the butt-ugly headstock point, the ugly bridge or the mini-switches. Its neck pickup is a real neck pickup, not in the middle like G&L. And most important of all, it doesn't have those godawful sounding MFD pickups.

G&L only wishes it could sound, look and play like a MM.

Looks like somebody didn't get their Ritalin today. Whassamatter kid? Are you one of those "there's only one brand of bass" people? It'll pass with puberty. :p

It's okay to let others like another instrument...really, it is.

I'd have to agree. The SR5 has always been one of my favorites....except for the pickguard (which is superficial enough to ignore). The ceramic magnets also don't do much for me, either.

Looks like EBMM has been reading my mind when I have my tin-foil hat off in the shower.

Tinfoil hats in the shower? Nice!

I gotta say, I thought I was done buying basses...
But the pup positioning on this is perfect for me, and is indeed much different than a 2500L. And big alnico 'bukcers?
That'll do me just fine, thanks!

How does one order one of these? Where?

You have to wait until NAMM 2007 in January. Then, you can order one from any MM dealer.

My question is:

Are they (EBMM) ever going to make the Alnico 5-string pickups available for swapping them for the ceramic ones in a regular 5-string HH 'ray?

If not, I may end up having to sell my 'ray, and I haven't even gotten it yet . . . :crying:

I'm going to go out on a limb, and say, "no." But, with the Sterling 5 coming at Summer NAMM, and the way they did the horns on the 20th Anniversary, you never know what they're going to do.

But, I think replacement pickups from ceramic to alnico isn't going to happen simply because they don't sell replacement parts like that.

Pretty much what I thought.

That makes for one heck of a dilemma. Dargie, or 20th? Can't really have both with all of the other basses I'm dearly attached to. :(

There is no way to describe the difference in tone between alnico and ceramic, but you can hear it for yourself if you can compare a Stingray (alnico), and a Sterling (ceramic).
Personally i like both, i used to have a Stingray with a ceramic pup and i loved it... i'm looking for a replacement for that bass.
