Shoot, I bought a DeArmond Pilot Deluxe for less than $300...it's a neck-through 4-string with 35" scale. Might even sell it some day - I'm not using it.

There definitely are some around, and you don't need to spend $1000.

a lot of older modulus graphite spi4s are out there and generally fetch under a grand. most of them have paint jobs rather than stain, but not always.

I just bought a Peavey G bass. They are a steal for what you get versus what they cost. I also agree with the Cirrus... The MIA and BXP are another excellent value for the money.
