Interesting that both Sandberg and Clover use Delano pickups. I haven't played the PM model but I did try another MM-pickup bass of theirs that had a very modern-style, thin neck on it. Don't know if necks can be switched around between their basses though. From all I've heard they are very acommodating to customers demands, maybe send them a mail.

A 5-string P+MM... does it exist?

I think what you are thinking is the input jack is actually the mode switch. Whatever that is.....

Are you talking about the active/passive switch or you hate the side mounted jack?

Here's the answer to your question (at least if you're looking for a "real" Stingray/Precision clone). It's Matt's own gigging basses, one 4- and one 5-string Level bass with an MM and a P pickup, both in their authentic positions (unlike the Clovers and Sandbergs that have been previously shown). The Stingray sweet-spot position is essential for getting the Stingray sound, in my humble opinion.

Unfortunately it's a 3+2 headstock and not 5 in line as you would probably prefer, but on the other hand, 3+2 will balance better.

I was working a P/MM single-cut bolt-on prototype before I closed down the shop here in Seattle. I'll eventually get back to this when I get the new place built and opened in Charlotte

Talk to Brian Barrett at thelowend.net. Chris Benavente makes some nice 5 string P-basses that are 5 inline. The two below are mine (pardon the crappy pic). I'm sure Benavente would do a P+MM for you. You might have to provide the pickups yourself, but that's not much of an inconvenience.

Just so you know, Sandberg make Custom order basses with no extra charge, it just takes a couple of months. I'm planning on getting a custom 'Basic Ken Taylor' Fretless 5'er, I'm just waiting for an answer about if they've got piezo systems.

+1, those always looked like awesome basses to me. The MM position needs to be where it is to get the tone, and the added P should add some low-end.
