A BasketCase brought back to live....

So I found this basket case Epi EB-3 over at Reverb. Needs some parts but it will be OK.
Got a new DiMarzio PU and a HipShot SuperTone on the way. Here is what I found that
makes me wonder. The Bass has black Tuners and a black 3 point bridge. The Tuners are black SCHALLER'S, that are engraved. That's a German make used by Gibson, but with a Gibson logo on it..The serial number is sanded out, but there is a Stamp on the head stock that looks like US.. and I can't see what it is. Maybe numbers? Anybody have an idea what this is ?

I hope not. I got it from a store through Reverb and it was pretty much stripped down. From what I learned was that they wanted to do a refinish but then decided not to do it and offed it. No idea why the serial # was sanded.
